I've been too long I'm glad to be back
Yes I'm let loose
From the noose
That's kept me hangin around
Goood morning folks welcome back to a cloudy day in Dalhart, Texas with a high of 72 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Today we have chances of thunderstorms and heavy rain which should be coming down starting around 10 o'clock up until 6 this evening. May be a good day to stay in and relax unless you're a missionary for the Church of Jesus christ of latter-day Saints.
How are we all doing today? Its been a little while since I've written a letter so I feel it's about due time I write another one. Let's see...where do we start?
I suppose I'll begin at the start of the new transfer. This is my second in Dalhart, my old companion finished his two years and flew back home and I got a new companion who unfortunately does not speak any Spanish, but we can worry about that later. In this part of the country there are a lot of faithful loving Christians many of which are more interested in discussing about religion and what church is more "correct" if you will, but many others are much more open minded to other's beliefs and there are plenty of each here in town. For example, on Saturday night (not Saturday as in two days ago but as in a week ago) we met our friend Saul who had a ton of questions we were like this is great but later in the week we found he was just more interested the details of the system of belief of the Mormons than actually any kind of lesson. Right after that though someone on a bike rode up to us and asked what the message for today is and we shared a quick scripture with her.
That's kind of the deal with the Americans. Now there are very many people here from other countries namely Guatemala and Mexico most of which who speak primarily Spanish. These folks I'd say are more welcoming. Just this past Saturday we had a lesson with a young couple we had taught just down our street when they were having a barbecue with some friends and grilling some carne asada and tortillas and stuff and they invited us in and made us part of their dinner and offered us food and beer (don't worry we declined the latter of the two) and we shared a lesson with them after it was great even though it's just me who is Spanish maybe it makes it more authentic or something I don't really know.
We were knocking some doors on Friday and we met this Jewish woman who invited us in and talked a bunch about all her books she has and gave us a history lesson and shared stories she also showed us In Micah where it said Jesus would be born and what a lot of stuff means most of it went over my head but it was interesting nonetheless. Also she speaks apparently like 5 languages including Arabic and whatever one the old testament was written in.
Also on Saturday morning we did service for this dude Mario we teach he said he would like his back yard cut the only thing was that he didn't have a lawn mower and the whole back yard was filled with tall weeds. Long story short he just picked up a lawn mower from someone else and we used it to cut down the weeds it worked really well actually they were all really dry so they just got mowed down like butter. We also had a few lessons that day including the cookout.
Church was really good yesterday except I had to translate for a Spanish speaking sister in the branch which was difficult but other than that it was a good Sunday when our friend Harlan pulled up to church.
Well unfortunately that email got less and less organized as it went on but there we have it. Sorry if it seems all over the place I'll let you get back to your day. Bye
